From my game, Dark Moon:
Slimes can reproduce without human help. They can simply divide, like most single-celled creatures. But there are enormous advantages in using the uterus of a human female or a furry mutant humanoid. First there is the protection factor. When dividing, each new slime has mass equal to or less than half the original slime (a part of the mass can be lost in the division) which makes them weaker. Throwing only a small piece into a human makes the slime retain most of its mass and ensures that the small piece can develop into the safety of its host's uterus until it reaches a size that gives it a chance to survive. Second, there is the nutitional part. When it occupies a uterus, it enters a state of symbiosis and the host organism starts to provide nutrients, as it would provide for a fetus. Finally there is genetic exchange. The slime that develops in this way, absorbs some genetic load from its host. It is not enough to create a hybrid, but it helps in its evolution and mutation.
It is not known why slimes do not use this process with other animals and Erica, a young research assistant was involved in the search for this answer ... Unfortunately she did not take much care and was eventually attacked by a slime (see here thehiveh.tumblr.com/post/17134… ) and serving as host for a small piece of a conventional slime. After a few weeks that was the result. Despite the volume, it is'nt painful birth, at least not for the most part, since the slime's is gelatinous and slippery, unfortunately its core is a particularly large and hard sphere and it seems that young Erica is having difficulties with it right now ...
